I have a red sore like thing on my upper lip. Help !?

I have this red sore type thing on my upper lip. I've had it for about 2 weeks now. It hurts and is a darker color than my natural lip color so it stands out. I have tried to put many things on it such as Vaseline, Cold Sore Medicate, Oxonol, etc.. but it wont go away. The skin tends to get dry and somewhat tight in the morning but i end up peeling it off because its so bothersome. I've tried leaving it alone as well and that didn't work either, the skin just got really dry and began peeling itself. What could this be? I dont think its a cold sore because the medication hasnt been working.
